CDS is a global leader providing innovative solutions to complex development challenges. We design programs to meet unique local needs, while also meeting the standards of an integrated global economy.
Local Content Development
From the launch of our first supplier development program in Sakhalin, Russia in the mid-1990s, CDC Development Solutions knew that we had designed a highly effective and replicable tool. Our local content methodology was designed to maximize opportunities for indigenous businesses to contract with large corporations, keeping more jobs and money in-country.
With a range of experiences - including localizing supply chains for the oil industry in Azerbaijan and Russia, linking small businesses to mining sector procurement opportunities in Guatemala and Guinea, building the capacity of enterprises along the agribusiness value chain in Jamaica, and identification and training of local oil and gas suppliers in Equatorial Guinea and Angola - our solutions for supply chain development capitalize upon key economic drivers in emerging markets to propel SME expansion.
In building strong local value chains, often for the extractive industries, but also for the construction, transportation, agribusiness and tourism sectors, CDC Development Solutions utilizes our innovative Supplier Training Initiative™ methodology. STI leverages tools that address the obstacles typically associated with the specific industry sector’s supply chains in emerging markets. Key components of the Supplier Training Initiative include:
- Identification of potential local suppliers for the target industry through in-depth analysis of demand by multinational firms and available supply by local SMEs
- Cutting-edge training and consulting services delivered to SMEs by industry and business experts in four areas crucial to contracting with extractive industries:
- Procurement policies and regulations
- Quality management
- Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) compliance
- Business and financial management
- Access to procurement opportunities information from multinational firms;
- Facilitation of SME access to financing to support supplier business development.
